I Guess I'll Try Again... ;)

Well, January 2011 is almost over!  It's hard to believe that I've been trying to start blogging for two years now.  My family is so blessed, and I feel as though I really need to share those blessings, so I guess I will try this again.  Now that I've got a few blogs that I actually read on here, maybe it will be easier for me to remember to write.  :)

So what's going on?  Our little bundle of joy is no longer a "bundle"!  He is a tall, handsome, extremely smart young man!  Russell is only 3, but I believe he's going to end up being just like his mommy and daddy:  an older, more mature person trapped in a youngster's body.  I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not, as I want him to enjoy his childhood and BE A KID, but I can't complain much about my childhood and I was the same way!  I'm just so proud of the person he is becoming.

I have been stressed about it because he's only seen Ricky two days a week for the past year (due to his night job).  I was afraid it would impact him negatively.  Every little boy needs his daddy!  However, it hasn't seemed to phase him at all up until the past two weeks.  He's starting to realize that Daddy isn't here every day and is starting to ask about him and whine/cry when I tell him we will see Daddy in a few days.  It's heartbreaking!  I'm just praying that he gets a day job SOON.  I know that God knows what he's doing, and that's the only thing keeping me from becoming super depressed right now.  I also know that some people go years without seeing their spouses due to military deployments, so I realize that things could be way worse.  Just gotta keep my head up!

In more pleasant news, we've both gotten new (to us) cars in the past few months...Ricky got a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta and I got a 2008 Mazda Tribute.

In other news, I just want to brag a little more on Russell.  He is starting to be able to trace his name REALLY good.  It will not be long before he's writing it all my himself!  Also, his drawing skills are improving at a rapid pace.  He's got one of those art easels that we leave in the living room and he loves to draw on it daily.  It's crazy how fast he went from struggling to draw a straight line to being able to draw an entire stick figure with eyes, ears, hair, nose, legs, shoes, etc.  Another thing I am so proud of him for is his ability to tell me what letter pretty much any word starts with.  I can give him a word, like "fire", and he sounds it out "fff, fff, fire.  It starts with a F!"  We're currently working on words like shock and chance, those words that have an sh- or ch- beginning.  They are a little harder, but he's picking it up pretty quick.  He is so awesome - like a sponge ready to soak up anything I say!  As a teacher, I love sponge brains...lol.

This past weekend, a lady from our church (Mt. Pleasant MBC), my mom, and I took 7 teen girls to Garland, Texas for the Revolve Tour

Had to stop in Mt. Pleasant, TX to get a pic of the Mt. Pleasant sign

The awesome chaperon throwing the deuces...

It was the best time and watching those girls grow closer to God was amazing!  I was truly revived, and I'm pretty sure everyone else was too.  :)  The conference was so uplifting, while the actual drive there and back was the most fun!  Even though I teach them every day, sometimes I forget how funny 13-and-14-year-old girls are.  They had me laughing so hard.  Truly a blessing.
